MELBOURNE.
Architect: Travis Walton.
A Manhattan-inspired renovation of a single-fronted, Victorian heritage home saw all but the facade and front room completely rebuilt. Entering the home, the cornices, hallway arches and high ceilings give the building's history away.
The rest of the home is a striking contrast: square-set ceilings, full-gloss bespoke joinery, a marble kitchen bench and a skylight running the length of the kitchen-living space, constructed from solid glass panels.
Major structural work was involved in this project, with the creation of the underground garage. The end result is a polished and sophisticated home with classical elegance, sleek materials and balanced geometry.
